Man arrested following investigation involving cruelty to animals – Two cats and kitten rescued: R25-31073

On August 28, 2025, members of the Winnipeg Police Service’s Sex Crimes Unit arrested a 19-year-old man following an investigation regarding the abuse of animals at his home.

In June of 2025, investigators were informed by the Humane Society’s Animal Protection Services that the man had been brought to hospital to seek medical attention for injuries caused by an animal in his care. The Animal Protection Services learned through their investigation, that the man had committed sexual acts on the animals in his home, one of which resulted in his injuries.

On June 13, Sex Crimes investigators accompanied by General Patrol officers and Animal Protection Officers, attended the residence and removed three cats from the home. They were brought to a veterinary clinic where medical exams and later transported and sheltered at the Humane Society.

On August 28, investigators arrested the 19-year-old man at his residence. He faces the following charges:

  • Bestiality
  • Causing Unnecessary Suffering to an Animal
  • Inflict Upon an Animal Acute Suffering, Serious Injury or Harm, or Extreme Anxiety, or Distress that Significantly Impairs its Health or Wellbeing.

He was released on an Undertaking.
