During past few months, the Winnipeg Police Service received reports of a suspected property crime occurring within an encampment in the Fort Douglas Park area. The Central Community Support Unit began an investigation and obtained evidence related to the possession of property obtained by crime.

On August 27, 2025, just before 1:30 p.m., the Central Community Support Unit executed a search warrant on a temporary structure within an encampment located near the riverbank in the 1-99 block of Gomez Street.

During the investigation, investigators seized the following:

  • 50 bicycle frames
  • 77 bicycle tires
  • 53 bicycle tire rims
  • 5 complete bicycle tires with rim
  • a gas generator
  • lawn mower
  • pressure washer
  • wheel chair

Two men were also found within the temporary structure at the time of the warrant execution and were subsequently arrested. A third individual was arrested, but determined to be not involved and released at the scene. Investigators learned that the temporary structure was constructed and used as a workshop.

A 39-year-old man and a 57-year-old man are facing a charge of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000. Both were released on Undertakings.
