Portage Avenue traffic stop leads to drug trafficking and weapons arrest: C25-197990

A traffic stop on Portage Avenue near Mount Royal Road on August 22, 2025 led to two arrests and the seizure of approximately $17,900 worth of fentanyl, a replica firearm, and other drug-related evidence.

At 10:38 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service received a call from a concerned citizen about a 2019 Chevrolet Malibu being driven recklessly on Portage Avenue after entering the city from the Perimeter Highway.  

At 10:48 p.m., West District General Patrol officers located the vehicle on Portage Avenue near Mount Royal Road and conducted a traffic stop. During the traffic stop, officers observed indicators of drug trafficking and arrested a female driver and her male passenger. The following was seized :

  • 119 grams of Fentanyl (Estimated Street Value: $17,900)
  • Black replica handgun
  • Cell phone x 2
  • Hunting knife
  • $20 Canadian currency

A 19-year-old woman faces charges for Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Fentanyl, Possession of a Weapon x 2, Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000.

A 19-year-old man is facing charges of Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Fentanyl, Possession of a Weapon x 2, Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000, and Fail to Comply with Probation Order x 4.

Both were release on an Undertaking.
