On August 4, 2025, at 9:00 a.m., four vehicles stopped at a red traffic signal in the Westbound lanes of Ellice Avenue at Banning Street were struck from behind by a 2017 Nissan Qashqai being operated by a man in his seventies. The force of the impact resulted in all involved vehicles to sustain significant damage, rendering them inoperable.

The driver of the Qashqai and the woman passenger were transported to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable. No other persons with injuries required hospitalization.

Members of the Traffic Division, with assistance from the Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems or Drone Unit, remained on scene and initiated an investigation. The intersection was closed for a significant part of the day.

The Traffic Division continues to investigate. No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information regarding the collision, or with surveillance or dashcam footage of the incident is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-7085 or anonymously at Crime Stoppers 204-786-TIPS or winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
