A Corrections Officer is arrested in relation to the sexual assaults of two inmates: R25-4958

On July 16, 2025, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Sex Crimes Unit arrested a Corrections Officer regarding the sexual assaults of two men who were incarcerated at an adult correctional institution in Manitoba.

Police received separate reports about two adult men who were incarcerated and receiving medical treatment at a Winnipeg hospital when the assaults occurred.

In December 2024, the first man was receiving medical treatment at a hospital overnight, under the guard of two correctional officers. When one of the officers temporarily left the room, the man was sexually assaulted with a weapon by the other correctional officer. He was injured but did not report the incident until a later date.

In January 2025, a second man was receiving medical treatment at a hospital, under the guard of two correctional officers. When one of the officers left the room, the man was sexually assaulted by the other correctional officer. He was not physically injured and did not report the incident until a later date.

A 37-year-old man is facing the following charges:

Sexual Assault x 2

Sexual Assault with a Weapon

He was released on an Undertaking.
