Drugs and firearm seized by police, three people arrested: C25-156104

In May 2025, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Guns and Gangs Unit began an investigation regarding drug trafficking within Winnipeg. Through investigation, two locations of interest and three suspects were identified.

On July 10, 2025, with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team, the West District Community Support Unit, and the Firearms Investigation and Enforcement Unit, investigators executed search warrants on an apartment in the 100 block of Sherbrook Street and a residence in the 800 block of Grosvenor Avenue.

During the investigation, investigators seized 50.6 grams of cocaine, 6 grams of fentanyl, a loaded revolver, five rounds of .22 calibre ammunition, $2,750 in Canadian currency, as well as items and supplies consistent with drug trafficking and drug production. The estimated street value of the drugs seized is $6,700.

A man and two women were arrested as a result of this investigation. During the man’s arrest, investigators located 56 grams of fentanyl and 4 grams of cocaine in his possession, with a combined estimated street value of $16,200.

Hasan HAMAWEND (27) has been charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  • Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon, Firearm Part or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
  • Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regs
  • Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine x 2
  • Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking x 2
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
  • Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order x 2

Shaye GREER (45) has been charged with Possession of Scheduled Substance – Cocaine and Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order.

Both were detained in custody.

Jena Jacqueline MERCER (33) is charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000

She was released on an Undertaking.
