Update: Man arrested for random sexual assaults near hospital: C25-149577

General Patrol officers from Central District arrested a man linked to several sexual assaults near the Health Sciences Campus on July 2, 2025.  

Since the previous media release, all the survivors were identified and an additional woman reported being sexually assaulted in the area, (the 600 block of Notre Dame Avenue) on July 2.

On July 3, at 5:30 p.m., a 28-year-old man was taken into custody in the 600 block of Spence Street and turned over to the Sex Crimes Unit.

He was charged with the following offences and was detained in custody.

  • Sexual Assault x 5
  • Sexual Interference
  • Assault x 3
  • Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition

This investigation is continuing by the Sex Crimes Unit.

As previously released:

The Winnipeg Police Service is working to identify a suspect in four similar sexual assaults that occurred on the evening of July 2nd, 2025.

Around 8:00 p.m., police received several reports about four woman that were sexually assaulted by an unknown man around the Health Sciences Campus area.

  1. Around 7:00 p.m., a teenage girl was walking in the area of Elgin/Sherbrook when she was confronted by an unknown male and was sexually assaulted. She reported to an adult and was transported to safety.
     
  2. Around 7:12 p.m., a female staff member was walking east on William near Furby, when she  sexually assaulted.

  1. At 7:42 p.m., a female staff member was walking in the hospital tunnels when she was confronted by an unknown male and sexually assaulted.

  1. Around 7:45 p.m., female staff member was walking south on Emily from McDermot, when she was confronted by an unknown male and sexually assaulted.

The suspect is described as a man in his 20s, slim build, with dark hair, he was wearing a Jets shirt, and had jewellery on.

The Sex Crimes Unit is continuing to investigate.
