On January 17, at approximately 12:15 p.m., North District General Patrol officers responded to a report of a male passenger on a city bus who was in possession of a hatchet.
The male suspect was taken into custody by officers after he disembarked from the bus at Pioneer Avenue and Main Street.
Officers learned through investigation that the suspect embarked on the bus when a fellow passenger observed him to be in possession of what he believed to be a hatchet. The passenger contacted police. The suspect did not threaten anyone with the hatchet and no one was injured in this incident. The hatchet was recovered from the operator of the bus who had previously taken it from the suspect.
While in custody, the suspect threatened to kill the attending officers.
John Todd SAVAGE, 36, of Winnipeg, is charged with the following offences:
- Possession of a Weapon
- Utter Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm x 2
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
- Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order
He was detained in custody.
