Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision – Arrest: C24-298894

On December 23, 2024, at approximately 7:30 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian at the intersection of McPhillips Street and Leila Avenue.

Emergency personnel were already on scene and transported the pedestrian, an 87-year-old male, to hospital in unstable condition where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The driver remained on scene and met with police.

Members of the Traffic Division continued the investigation, obtaining surveillance and  determined the driver was in a pick-up truck travelling eastbound Leila Avenue when he struck a pedestrian who was crossing McPhillips Street at a marked pedestrian crossing.

On January 12, 2025, a 44-year-old male of Winnipeg was arrested and faces a charge of Drive Carelessly - Cause Death. He was released on an Appearance Notice.
