The Homicide Unit continued to investigate the stabbing death of a 23-year-old Jamal Eli Preston MILES in the 500 block of Alexander Avenue on the evening of November 8, 2024.

On November 18, 2024, Naustin William BEARDY, 21, of Winnipeg was arrested at the Winnipeg Remand Centre, where he is currently being lodged for an unrelated matter.

BEARDY been charged with Second Degree Murder.

He remains in custody.

As previously released:

On November 8, at approximately 8:47 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 500 block of Alexander Avenue for the report of an injured adult male.

Central District General Patrol officers attended and located the victim suffering from life-threatening bodily injuries and provided him with emergency medical care. The victim was conveyed to hospital in critical condition where he was pronounced deceased. The suspect(s) fled before police arrived.

The Homicide Unit assumed the investigation and learned that several persons became involved in a verbal confrontation outside which escalated with the victim being seriously assaulted, causing fatal injuries.

Investigators have now identified the victim as 23-year-old Jamal Eli Preston MILES, a member of Shamatewa First Nation who resided in Winnipeg. Notification to family members have been made and the investigation is continuing.
