The Manitoba Integrated High Risk Sex Offender Unit (MIHRSOU) is a joint forces unit of the Winnipeg Police Service and the RCMP. MIHRSOU today provides information regarding DARRELL ERWIN ACKMAN, 55 years of age, a convicted child sex offender who is considered at risk to re-offend in a sexual manner against female children, particularly adolescents.

ACKMAN was released from Stony Mountain Institution, Manitoba on September 25, 2024 in relation to a sentence of 10 years and 8 months (in addition to 4 years and 4 months pre-trial custody credit) for sexual assault (3 counts), invitation to sexual touching, living on the avails of prostitution (6 counts), makes, prints, publishes or possession for the purpose of publication of child pornography (3 counts), possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, plus 18 months consecutive custody for obstruct justice.

ACKMAN is expected to take up residence in Winnipeg.

Upon release, until September 25, 2039, ACKMAN will be subject to conditions, including prohibiting:

  • Attending a public park or swimming area where persons under 16 are present, or can reasonably be expected to be present, a day care centre, schoolground, playground or community centre.
  • Seeking, obtaining or continuing any employment/volunteering that involves being in a position of trust, or authority, of any person under 16.
  • Contact including communication of any form with a person under 16, unless done under the supervision of a person the court considers appropriate.

ACKMAN will be subject to additional conditions until November 26, 2028, including:

  • Reside at specific location approved by Correctional Service Canada.
  • Refrain from possessing or using wireless telecommunication devices or computers unless pre-authorized in writing by parole supervisor.
  • Refrain from purchasing, acquiring, possessing, or accessing pornography or sexually explicit material in any form or type of media, including images or videos of children under the age of 18.

In addition, ACKMAN will be subject to a 10-year weapons prohibition order.

ACKMAN has a history of violent and sexual offences. Although he participated in some treatment programming in the past, ACKMAN is still considered at risk to re-offend in a sexual manner. Female children, particularly adolescents are at risk.

Darrell Erwin ACKMAN is a 55-year-old male with convictions for sexual assault (3 counts), invitation to sexual touching. invitation to sexual touching, living on the avails of prostitution (6 counts), makes, prints, publishes or possession for the purpose of publication of child pornography, possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, assault peace officer (2 counts), breach recognizance (2 counts) and obstruct justice.

ACKMAN’s most recent convictions resulted in a sentence of 10 years and 8 months (in addition to 4 years and 4 months pre-trial custody credit) for sexual assault (3 counts), invitation to sexual touching, living on the avails of prostitution (6 counts), makes, prints, publishes or possession for the purpose of publication of child pornography (3 counts) and possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, plus eighteen months custody (consecutive) for obstruct justice.

During 2011/2012, ACKMAN targeted vulnerable minor female victims, gained their trust, and victimized them sexually and or exploited them in the sex trade for his financial gain. He also made video recordings of the underage victims. While on charge, Mr. ACKMAN breached the conditions of his recognizance (2 counts) and assaulted police when arrested.

ACKMAN will be released from Stony Mountain Institution, Manitoba, on September 25, 2024.

While incarcerated, ACKMAN participated in some sex offender programming but is still considered at risk to re-offend in a sexual manner against female children, particularly adolescents.

ACKMAN is expected to take up residence in Winnipeg.
