On September 20, 2024, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Central District Foot Patrol officers were engaging with hotel staff in the 300 block of Kennedy Street. They observed a male walk past them with what appeared to be the end of a firearm protruding from his bag.
He was taken into custody, and a loaded .22 calibre rifle was seized along with ammunition.
Approximately $2,000 worth of individually wrapped quantities of crack cocaine and methamphetamine were located in his possession, along with $60 cash, cell phones and drug packaging materials.
A 43-year-old male of Winnipeg is facing the following charges:
- Careless Use of Firearm, Ammunition, Prohibited Weapon or Device
- Possession of a Weapon
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
He was released on an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code.
