IIU Investigation: C24-215092

On September 15, 2024, at approximately 3:53 a.m., West District officers of the Winnipeg Police Service arrested an adult male in the 100 block of King Edward Street East regarding an outstanding warrant.

At 4:23 a.m., the adult male was conveyed to police headquarters at 245 Smith Street and turned over to the Central Processing Unit (CPU) after being medically cleared by the onsite CPU WFPS paramedic and subsequently placed in a holding room.

At 7:30 a.m., CPU members conducting a scheduled arousal check found the male unresponsive in the holding room. The onsite paramedic provided emergency medical care to the male before he was transported to hospital, and later pronounced deceased.
 

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) has been notified and has assumed responsibility for the investigation. Please direct any follow-up inquiries to the IIU.
