On August 30, 2024, at approximately 3:15 p.m., General Patrol officers from the Central District responded to the report of a stabbing incident at Portage Place.
Police provided emergency medical care to a 46-year-old male who had an injury to his arm.
The victim indicated that he was in the mall when he observed a female being assaulted by a male. He intervened, and the male produced a knife and assaulted him. The female victim left, and the male victim was transported to hospital in stable condition.
Police subsequently identified the male, and they obtained an arrest warrant. The original female left before police arrived.
On September 3, at approximately 3:00 p.m., the accused was observed again around Portage Place. Upon seeing police, he began to run and was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit.
Tevien Terrence DUCHARME (26) of Winnipeg was charged with the following offences:
- Aggravated Assault
- Assault with a Weapon
- Possession of a Weapon
- Possession of Scheduled Substance – Methamphetamine
- Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order x 6
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order x 2
He was detained in custody.
This investigation is continuing as the original female victim has not been identified.
