Update – Homicide Investigation – Arrests: C24-105299

As previously released, on May 12, 2024, at approximately 2:20 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of Portage Avenue and Arlington Street regarding an injured male.

Officers located the male on the ground and provided emergency medical care by applying a chest seal and administering compressions.

The male was transported to hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The deceased has been identified as Jack Jacques KABLUITOK, 46, of Rankin Inlet Nunavut, currently residing in Winnipeg.

The investigation continued involving members of the Homicide Unit.

The investigation has determined that the victim was confronted by two suspects and robbed of his property. The incident escalated further when the victim was stabbed, causing fatal injuries.

The suspects were identified, and on August 20, 2024, while in the 200 block of Young Street, an adult male and adult female were arrested.

Derrick James GREY, 32, has been charged with Manslaughter and Robbery.

Roberta Jonah SUMNER, 21, has been charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000.

Both GREY and SUMNER have been detained in custody.
