Update:

Through a coordinated effort between the Winnipeg Police Service’s Major Crimes Unit, The Manitoba Integrated Violent Offender Unit, West District General Patrol, and West District Community Support Units, both males were arrested without incident on the evening of July 30, 2024.

They remain detained in custody.

The Winnipeg Police Service would like to thank media outlets and the public for their assistance. The WPS also reminds media outlets not to publish the suspects’ information from this moment forward.

Previously released:

On July 29, 2024, at approximately 7:20 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report regarding two inmates who had escaped custody while on an escorted leave from the Manitoba Youth Centre.

The Major Crimes Unit and the Manitoba Integrated Violent Offender Apprehension Unit (MIVOAU) have assumed the investigation and seek public assistance in locating two males, both 19 years of age. They were serving youth sentences at the Manitoba Youth Centre (MYC) and were participating in a community program in the North End when they fled from Corrections Officers. The Winnipeg Police Service was contacted, and West District General Patrol officers assisted in searching numerous locations for the escapees.

Investigators have obtained a court order authorizing the release of the identities of the now-adult suspects in connection with the investigation.
