On July 19, 2024, at approximately 7:00 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the rear lane in the 300 block of Stradbrook Avenue for the report of an unknown male observed sleeping in a parked vehicle.

Attending West District General Patrol officers located the suspect asleep at the wheel of the 2011 Chevrolet Express van, woke him, and placed him under arrest without incident. Officers located a sheathed hunting knife on his person, and a subsequent search of a duffle bag in his possession produced a sawed-off shotgun, 12-gauge ammunition, and multiple break-in instruments. All were seized as evidence.

Through their investigation, officers learned the suspect broke into the vehicle and proceeded to cause extensive damage to the steering column before falling asleep at the wheel.

Rick James WALKER, 33, of Winnipeg, is charged with multiple Firearm-related offences, Theft of Motor Vehicle, Weapon-related offences, Possession of Break-In Instruments, and multiple Probation Order breaches. He was also found to have two Warrants of Arrest in his name.

WALKER was detained in custody.
