On September 6, 2023, at approximately 5:00 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service General Patrol officers from the West District responded to an apartment fire in the 100 block of Hendon Avenue. Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) was already evacuating tenants and containing the fire.

WFPS News Release  

Police met with Sheriff’s Officers who had a male in custody. They indicated the male started a fire inside a suite while armed with a weapon, having a dispute with the Officers. As the fire spread, he escaped out a window unharmed, and the Sheriff’s Officers took him into custody. He was subsequently turned over to police.

One tenant received a non-fire-related injury while evacuating the building and was transported to hospital in stable condition.

Nathan Michael CARROL (47) of Winnipeg was charged with the following offences:

- Arson Causing Damage to Property

- Arson Causing Damage to Property

- Possession of Incendiary Material

- Possession of a Weapon

- Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition

He was detained in custody.
