On September 1, at approximately 12:30 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 700 block of Logan Avenue after receiving multiple reports of an erratic male discharging a firearm at the rear of a residential property.

Central District General Patrol officers, Traffic Division officers, and Tactical Support Team (TST) members arrived on the scene where occupants of the residence had already self-evacuated. TST members located the suspect nearby, still in possession of the firearm, and safely arrested him without incident. A loaded Norinco 9mm handgun was recovered and seized as evidence. As several rounds had been discharged from the firearm, officers canvassed the area and confirmed members of the public were not injured during the incident.

The Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation and learned the suspect attended the residence of the 31-year-old male victim and parked his vehicle on the property. After exiting his vehicle, the suspect was observed walking about the backyard with a concealed firearm. The suspect produced the firearm and recklessly discharged multiple rounds, striking the involved residence and a nearby unoccupied parked vehicle. Errant rounds struck no persons during the incident.

The suspect and victim were not previously known to one another.

A 48-year-old male from Winnipeg has been charged with the following offences:

- Discharge a Restricted Firearm or a Prohibited Firearm with Intent
- Discharge a Firearm in a Reckless Manner
- Pointing a Firearm
- Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Possession of a Weapon
- Drive Suspended

He was detained in custody.

The Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6219, Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477), or online at winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
