On August 6, at approximately 10:10 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 3200 block of Portage Avenue for the report of an adult female who had been assaulted.

General Patrol officers from the West District attended and located an unconscious 32-year-old female victim suffering from an upper-body injury sustained from an assault. She was transported to hospital in stable condition and received medical treatment for her injury. The female suspect fled and foot and boarded a transit bus before police arrived.

With assistance from Winnipeg Transit, officers located the suspect at Portage Avenue and Rouge Road and placed her under arrest without incident.

Through their investigation, officers learned the suspect approached the victim in the 3200 block of Portage Avenue and struck her in the upper body with an inanimate object (believed to be road debris), knocking her to the ground and rendering her unconscious. The suspect stole the victim’s property before boarding a transit bus and fleeing.

Officers also learned the suspect had damaged a bus shelter at Portage Avenue and Rouge Road shortly before her arrest.

The suspect and the victim were not previously known to one another and investigators  believe the assault to be random and unprovoked.

Twanette Ann SCOTT, 27, of Winnipeg, is charged with the following offences:

- Robbery

- Mischief Over $5,000

She was detained in custody.
