Assault with a Weapon – Arrest: C22-165702

On July 24, 2022, at approximately 7:00 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to Portage/Camden for a passenger threatening to stab the driver while on a city bus.

An adult female boarded an eastbound Portage Avenue bus a few minutes earlier and began to cause a disturbance. When the bus driver stopped the bus and requested she leave, she pulled out a knife and attempted to stab the driver around the protective plastic barrier.

The driver ordered all the passengers to exit to safety, and he jumped through the driver’s side window. The suspect fled on foot.

Assault With a Weapon – Arrest: C22-165646

On July 24, 2022, at approximately 5:45 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to The Forks grounds for the report of a group of people who had been assaulted.

Officers from the Central District attended and located three people suffering from the effects of being sprayed with an unknown substance. One of the accused, who fled, was arrested and placed in custody by officers following a short foot pursuit. A 12-year-old male, 15-year-old female and an 18-year-old female were transported to hospital and were released.

Firearm/Drugs – Arrests: C22164117

On July 22, 2022, at approximately 9:30 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service observed a stolen vehicle occupied by three individuals being operated near Talbot Avenue and Watt Street.

East District Community Support Unit and General Patrol officers located the vehicle parked at Talbot Avenue and Levis Street with two adult female passengers. The male driver fled the scene before officers arrived. Officers arrested both adult females and took them into custody without incident.

Firearm & Drug Offences – Arrests: C22-163335

On July 21, 2022, at approximately 11:25 p.m., a Central District General Patrol officer was searching a rear lane with his flashlight in the 300 block of Broadway (on an unrelated matter) when he was summoned over by a male sitting in the driver’s seat in a nearby parked vehicle.

The officer attended to the vehicle and observed the male driver to have a clear bag with a substance believed to be crack cocaine on his lap.

ATM Theft – Investigation: C22-162548

On July 21, at approximately 3:45 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 2500 block of Main Street for the report of a Commercial Alarm.

Officers from the Central District attended to a business that had sustained significant storefront damage and noted an automated teller machine (ATM) had been removed from the premises. Shortly thereafter, officers located the ATM in the 3000 block of Main Street as well as an unoccupied stolen vehicle in the first 100 block of Meadowcrest Bay (believed to have been used during the incident).

Stabbing – Arrests: C22-145140

As previously released:

On July 1, 2022, at approximately 10:45 p.m., Central District officers responded to the report of a stabbing on Israel Asper Way.

Police located two adult victims in their twenties in front of the Human Rights Museum. One of the males was bleeding profusely with a life-threatening injury. He was transported to hospital in critical condition and stabilized, while the second victim who had been bear sprayed was treated and released.

Homicide – Update: C22-157659

As previously released:

On July 15, 2022, at approximately 5:30 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 500 block of Burnell Street for the report of an injured male who had been found by members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service attending to a fire alarm at this location.

Officers from the Central District attended and located an adult male suffering from upper-body injuries within the residence. The male was transported to hospital in critical condition; however, he succumbed to his injuries.

Firearm/Stolen Vehicle – Arrest: C22-160561

On July 18, 2022, at approximately 8:45 p.m., AIR1 responded to the report of a stolen vehicle. A caller reported seeing their friend’s recently stolen vehicle being driven in the area of Portage Avenue and Cavalier Drive.

AIR1 quickly spotted the vehicle and maintained visual containment. The vehicle continued to drive around the west end in an unsafe manner, at times into oncoming traffic.

Stabbing – Update/Arrest: C22-151734

As previously released:

On July 9, 2022, at 12:39 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of Wilkes Avenue and Community Row for a report of a stabbing that had just occurred.

Assault – Investigation: C22-160545

On July 18, 2022, at 8:21 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to an apartment building in the 600 block of Broadway for a report of an assault.

Upon arrival, officers located a seriously injured 44-year-old male and began to administer emergency medical care, including the use of trauma bandages and a pair of tourniquets. The victim was transported to a hospital in unstable condition and was later upgraded to stable condition.
