Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision – Investigation: C22-242972

Update:

The driver, an 18-year-old male, remains hospitalized in serious condition.

The passenger, a 17-year-old male, was pronounced deceased shortly after being transported to a hospital.

The Traffic Division continues to investigate the matter.

As previously released:

Luring/Sexual Assault – Arrest: C22-179952

In August 2022, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Child Abuse Unit received a child luring report involving a male suspect who made the acquaintance of two at-risk teenagers.

One of the females reported going to a park in the Centennial neighbourhood, where he subsequently met her and offered her liquor if she kissed him. When she declined, he took hold of her and tried to kiss her. She managed to free herself and fled for safety. She was not physically injured.

Firearm & Drugs – Arrests: C22-240247

On October 17, 2022, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Guns & Gangs Unit executed a search warrant as part of a drug investigation at a residence in the 300 block of Redwood Avenue.

As a result of this investigation, two individuals were taken into custody, and the following items were seized:

Robbery – Arrests: C22-239808

On October 15, at approximately 7:30 a.m, the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 700 block of Main Street for the report of a male that had been shot.

Homicide – Arrest: C22-228764

As previously released:

On October 2, 2022, at 7:56 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service was notified of a deceased adult male at the Health Sciences Centre with suspicious injuries.

The male was transported to the hospital by ambulance after a bystander found him unresponsive on the ground at 6:45 a.m. near Sherbrook Street and Cumberland Avenue.

The deceased victim was identified as Creedence Justin Beardy, a 27-year-old male of Winnipeg; his death was determined to be a homicide.

Update:

Public Assistance – Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision: C22-241250

On October 16, 2022, at approximately 11:30 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service and emergency personnel responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Portage Avenue and Berry Street.

An adult female was lying in the roadway and seriously injured. She was transported to hospital in unstable condition and later succumbed to her injuries.

Investigators have identified the victim as 24-year-old Shannon Joan Marie ROMANIUK of Winnipeg.

Stabbings – Investigations

During the weekend of October 15 and October 16, 2022, the Winnipeg Police Service responded to several stabbing-related incidents:

Motor Vehicle Collision – Investigation: C22-240651

Update:

Traffic Division investigators have now identified the victim in the collision as 81-year-old Corazon MANGUERRA. She was transported to hospital in unstable condition; however, her condition deteriorated, and she has since succumbed to her injuries.

"Grandparent" Scam: Public Assistance

The Winnipeg Police Service’s Financial Unit is investigating multiple reports of “Grandparent” scams during the last few days. At least five victims have reported significant losses as a result.

In the most recent, investigators have obtained similar descriptions of an adult male who attended the victims’ residences to retrieve funds. The below still photograph of an adult male depicts a person of interest who investigators believe may be involved in these incidents.

Sexual Assault & Exploitation – Arrest: R22-50996

The Winnipeg Police Service previously released about an ongoing investigation involving nine adult survivors who reported historical grooming and sexual abuse by their football coach during the 90s and 2000s. The accused taught physical education and coached football at Churchill High School and Vincent Massey Collegiate for approximately two decades.

The survivors (who were teens at the time) reported exploitative relationships forged by their coach and sexual offences that took place at his residence.
