Sexual Assault – Arrest: C22-234122

On October 11, 2022, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Sex Crimes Unit began an investigation after receiving a report of a female being sexually assaulted during a massage therapy appointment.

Sexual Assault & Child Assault – Arrest

On October 11, 2022, the Winnipeg Police Service arrested a male for two unrelated incidents involving a sexual assault on a Winnipeg Transit bus and a physical assault on an elementary school student.

Homicide – Arrests: C22-221461

As previously released:

On September 24, 2022, at 1:19 a.m., Central District General Patrol units and the Tactical Support Team responded to a vendor in the 1100 block of Arlington Street for a report of an assault.

Upon arrival, officers located a seriously injured male and began emergency medical care. The male was transported to a hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced deceased.

Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision – Investigation: C22-235209

On October 9, 2022, at approximately 9:54 p.m., emergency personnel responded to the 500 block of Osborne Street (near Bartlet Avenue) for a report of a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, a 78-year-old male, was transported to a hospital in unstable condition and succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, a female in her 80s, remained on the scene and met with officers.

Strongarm Robbery – Arrests: C22-234222

On October 8, at approximately 4:15 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report of a male who had been assaulted in the first block of Stadacona Street.

Officers from the East District attended and located a 25-year-old male victim suffering from upper-body injuries. He was transported to hospital in stable condition. Two adult male suspects fled on foot before the arrival of police.

Shortly thereafter, officers observed the two suspects walking on Henderson Highway near Hespeler Avenue and safely arrested them without incident.

Arson/Break & Enter – Arrest: C22-232905

On October 7, 2022, at approximately 6:00 a.m., patrolling Winnipeg Police Service officers observed a garage structure engulfed in flames in the 1600 block of William Avenue West.

Robbery/Purse Snatchings – Arrest: C22-217839

In late September 2022, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Major Crimes Unit entered an investigation regarding three elderly females violently robbed of their purses in various parts of the city.

On September 20, at approximately 12:30 p.m., the male suspect approached a 79-year-old female victim in the 500 block of Kenaston Boulevard and robbed her of her purse and contents at knifepoint. The suspect used the knife to cut the purse strap to steal it from the victim before he fled in a nearby vehicle. The victim was uninjured.

Weapons – Arrests: R22-50906

In September 2022, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Firearms Investigation and Enforcement Unit (FIEU) entered a firearms investigation regarding a male suspect and a residence in the West Alexander neighbourhood.

On October 6, 2022, members of the FIEU, Guns & Gangs Unit, and Tactical Support Unit executed a search warrant on a residence in the 1400 block of Ross Avenue West. Officers placed an adult male and an adult female under arrest without incident.

Breach of Peace – Arrests: C22-230050

Update:

On October 4, 2022, at approximately 2:30 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service arrested and charged five additional individuals for Obstruct Peace Officer and Occupy Tent or Portable Structure in Legislative Precinct after they failed to vacate the north encampment of the Legislative grounds.

Child Pornography – Arrest: R22-45611

The Winnipeg Police Service’s Domestic Violence Unit continued an investigation regarding the online publication and distribution of sexual imagery of women without their consent.

Through their investigation, the Domestic Violence Unit identified 43-year-old David Alexander ZEGARAC and, in May 2022, arrested him for Publication of an Intimate Image Without Consent for a separate victim.
