Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service performs water rescue

Winnipeg, MB – At 6:06 p.m. on Sunday, June 5, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a male youth in the Red River, between Victoria Crescent and South Drive. The 9-1-1 caller reported that the person was holding on to a log as the river current carried him downstream.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Cortez Bay

Winnipeg, MB – At 7:51 a.m. on Sunday, June 5, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a single-family bungalow on Cortez Bay.

Upon arrival, crews found smoke coming from the home. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 8:13 a.m.

Occupants of the house safely self-evacuated with their pets prior to crews arriving. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Selkirk Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 3:38 a.m. on Friday, June 3, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a mixed-use commercial-residential complex in the 400 block of Selkirk Avenue.

When crews arrived on-scene, they found smoke coming from the single-storey commercial portion of the structure. Firefighters launched an offensive attack, extinguishing the fire and preventing it from extending to the residential portion of the complex. The fire was declared under control at 4:05 a.m.

Regent Avenue West, from Winona Street to Day Street, will be closed today at 6:30 p.m. until Sunday, June 5 at 11 p.m. for the Transcona Hi Neighbour Festival.

Winnipeggers invited to provide feedback on short-term rentals

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is exploring options for regulating short-term rentals and is seeking input from residents and people in the accommodations industry.

Short-term rentals are temporary accommodations (less than 30 consecutive days) in a dwelling such as an apartment, house, or condominium, provided by a property owner or principal tenant in exchange for payment. These accommodations contribute to the local Winnipeg economy, provide adaptable accommodation options, and provide additional source of income for Winnipeggers.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on College Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 3:56 a.m. on Wednesday, June 2, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire at a three-storey apartment building in the 200 block of College Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, they observed a fire outside that had extended to the building, impacting two floors. They quickly extinguished the outside fire and proceeded to address the fire extension with an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 4:39 a.m.

Winnipeggers invited to weigh in on roadway modernization options for north Henderson Highway

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is asking Winnipeggers for feedback on proposed changes to Henderson Highway north of Chief Peguis Trail as part of Phase 2 of the Henderson Highway North Improvements Study.

The project, which began in late 2021, is specifically looking to improve safety, traffic flow, and livability from Gilmore Avenue to the north city limit at Glenway Avenue.

While the project includes a number of engineering and traffic improvements, Phase 2 engagement will ask Winnipeggers to weigh in on a few specific items, namely:

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to carbon monoxide incident on Dufferin Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 1:26 a.m. on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a fire alarm at a seven-storey, multi-residential building in the 200 block of Dufferin Avenue.

When crews arrived on-scene, they discovered unsafe levels of carbon monoxide and confirmed readings of between 20 and 80 parts per million (ppm) on at least two floors.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Pritchard Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 7:43 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a single-storey industrial building in the 100 block of Prichard Avenue.

Once on-scene, crews found smoke throughout the building. They launched an offensive attack, locating the fire and quickly extinguishing it. Crews proceeded to ventilate the structure thoroughly.

Occupants self-evacuated prior to crew arrival. No injuries were reported.
