City of Winnipeg’s Fall Leisure Guide now available

Registration for fall activities begins on August 30

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg’s Fall 2022 Leisure Guide, Leisure Guide Skating brochure, and Leisure Guide Swimming brochure are now available for viewing online. Registration for all fall activities begins Tuesday, August 30 at 8 a.m. for Winnipeg residents, and Thursday, September 1 at 8 a.m. for non-residents.

Fire Paramedic Service responds to a gas leak on Regent Avenue West

Winnipeg, MB – At 7:48 p.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a vacant commercial structure in the 1600 block of Regent Avenue West.

When crews arrived, they found the gas line to the building was leaking and had ignited, with flames coming from the gas meter on the exterior of the building. Fire suppression crews worked to extinguish the fire while additional crews established a safety zone. Manitoba Hydro attended the scene to shut off service to the building.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Forbes Road and Wellington Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two fires:

Forbes Road fire

At 9:03 p.m. on Monday, August 15, 2022, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a single-family home in the 1000 block of Forbes Road.

When crews arrived on scene, they found light smoke coming from the house. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 10:35 p.m. As the home is located outside the City of Winnipeg water district, WFPS water tankers were deployed to shuttle water as required to the scene.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to overnight fires on Stella Avenue and Portage Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 2:18 a.m. on August 14, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a fire in a two-storey house in the 600 block of Stella Avenue.

The first arriving crews found fire contained to the rear of the structure on the main floor. A water supply was quickly established and crews launched offensive fire suppression operations bringing the fire under control at 2:35 am.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Elgin Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 1:47 a.m. on August 13, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a fire alarm system activation at a warehouse facility in the 300 block of Elgin Avenue.

When crews arrived, firefighters observed a moving truck fully engulfed in flames under the canopy of a warehouse building. Crews launched an offensive fire attack and quickly brought the fire under control within 15 minutes.

The fire was contained to the exterior of the building, there were no injuries.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Westminster Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At approximately 10:22 a.m. on Friday, August 12, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a vacant two-storey house in the 600 block of Westminster Avenue.

When crews arrived, they found smoke in the building and located a fire on the main floor of the house. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 10:44 a.m. No injuries were reported.

The fire is under investigation and damage estimates are not available at this time.

Outdoor aquatic facility closures begin next week

Staggered closures will take place between August 17 and September 5

Winnipeg, MB – City-operated wading pools, outdoor pools, and spray pads are set to close in the coming weeks.

  • Windsor Park
  • Provencher
