City seeking feedback on the Neighbourhood Greenway Reduced Speed Pilot Program

Winnipeg, MB – How did changed speeds on four neighbourhood greenways affect Winnipeggers’ experiences?

That’s the question the City of Winnipeg wants answered now that its Neighbourhood Greenway Reduced Speed Pilot Program has been in place for nearly a year.

The pilot was implemented in July 2021 to evaluate the impact of reduced speeds and enhanced traffic calming measures on four existing neighbourhood greenways:

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service performs water rescue

Winnipeg, MB – At 5:58 a.m. on Monday, May 30, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of an adult male in the Red River in the vicinity of the Disraeli Bridge. Callers to 9-1-1 reported that the male was struggling while being swept north down the river by the swift current.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to multiple fires

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to fires yesterday evening and overnight.

Pritchard Avenue fire

At 2:51 a.m. on Sunday, May 29, 2022, officers in the Winnipeg Police Service’s AIR1 helicopter reported a fire in an unoccupied, two-storey house in the 200 block of Pritchard Avenue.

Upon arrival on scene, WFPS crews found smoke and flames coming from the building. An offensive attack was launched, and the fire was declared under control at 3:28 a.m.

Upcoming temporary road closures

Winnipeg, MB – There are several temporary road closures in effect in the coming days:

Plessis Road

Southbound Plessis Road, from St. Boniface Road to Fermor Avenue, is now closed until Sunday, July 31 at 5 p.m., for the widening of Plessis Road, to extend the center median, and to construct east side access points.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on College Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 5:38 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a garage fire in the 300 block of College Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, they found the garage fully-engulfed in smoke and flames with the fire spreading to the adjacent two-and-a-half storey house which was vacant. Crews launched an offensive attack, and declared the fire in both structures under control at 6:25 p.m.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Pritchard Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 6:06 p.m. on Monday, May 23, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey duplex in the 500 block of Pritchard Avenue.

When they arrived at the scene, crews found a heavy smoke coming from the house. An offensive attack was launched and by 7:01 p.m. the fire was extinguished.

All occupants safely self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. No injuries were reported. The City’s Emergency Social Services was engaged to assist eight individuals in finding temporary accommodations.
