Released: August 6, 2022 at 10:04 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two overnight fires.

Main Street fire

At 1:24 a.m. on August 6, 2022, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey hotel in the 700 block of Main Street.

When crews arrived, they found that building’s sprinkler system had initiated, extinguishing a fire in one of the suites. Crews ensured all hotspots were extinguished and deactivated the sprinkler system.

The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services was called to assist in the event any of the residents were displaced. It was ultimately determined that most residents could return to their suites. Available suites were provided to those whose rooms were damaged.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.

Rutland Street fire

At 3:16 a.m. on August 6, 2022, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a vacant house in the 300 block of Rutland Street.

Upon arrival, crews encountered a fire in a portion of the house. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 4:29 a.m.

Residents from one neighbouring home were temporarily evacuated as a precaution. They were able to return to their home once the fire was extinguished. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
