Winnipeg, MB – At 6:03 p.m. on August 6, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a five-storey apartment building in the 300 block of Broadway.
When crews arrived, they found smoke in the building. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 6:32 p.m.
Most occupants of the building safely self-evacuated and those who remained were assisted by crews. No injuries were reported. A Winnipeg Transit bus was deployed to the scene to provide shelter for evacuees.
The majority of residents were able to return to their suites after the fire was extinguished and smoke was ventilated from the building. Two suites sustained fire and water damage. The City’s Emergency Social Services were called to assist residents from those suites in finding temporary accommodations.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
