Homicide – Investigation: C22-127134

On June 12, 2022, at approximately 5:00 a.m., General Patrol officers responded to an apartment block in the 600 block of Broadway Avenue for a report of a seriously injured male. He was transported to hospital in unstable condition and succumbed to his injuries.

Firearm & Drug Offences – Arrests: C22-126450

In June 2022, the Guns & Gangs Unit began an investigation into a female who was believed to be coordinating the sale of crack cocaine on behalf of a street gang.

On June 12, 2022, at approximately 10:50 a.m., two suspects were arrested in the area of Ellice Avenue and Minto Street. A search of the taxi cab they had been in, along with their property, resulted in the seizure of several items, including the following:

- a 9mm calibre handgun with an auto sear implemented to make it fully automatic (prohibited firearm)

Drug Offences – Arrests: C22-124141

Members of the Guns & Gangs Unit recently began an investigation into a male believed to be trafficking drugs.

On June 9, 2022, at approximately 5:50 p.m., officers located the male in the company of a female in a vehicle near Tache Avenue and Marion Street. Both were taken into custody, and a search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of:

- 258 grams of methamphetamine (estimated street value of $12,900)
- $12,240 in Canadian currency
- Two mobile phones

Weapons – Arrest: C22-124381

During the morning of June 8, 2022, members of the Guns & Gangs Unit began an investigation regarding a male who was believed to be illegally in possession of a firearm.

At approximately 10:15 a.m., the male was placed under arrest at a hotel in the 1650 block of Regent Avenue West. He was found to be in possession of brass knuckles when taken into custody. A bag containing 12 grams of crack cocaine and 17.5 grams of cocaine was also seized.

Assault Cause Bodily Harm – Arrest: C22-125072

On June 9, 2022, at approximately 11:00 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the intersection of Notre Dame Avenue and Arlington Street for the report of a male who had been assaulted at a Winnipeg Transit bus stop.

Officers from the Central District located the 55-year-old victim at the bus stop suffering from multiple injuries. He was transported to hospital and subsequently released.

The suspect, who had remained at the scene, was safely placed under arrest by officers without incident.

Aggravated Assault – Arrests: C22-124999

On June 9, 2022, at approximately 9:00 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report of an assault in a school field within the 100 block of Ellen Street.

A passerby contacted police, and AIR1 quickly located a victim on the ground being kicked in the head by a group of people. AIR1 coordinated with ground units to locate the victim and three suspects at McDermot Avenue / Frances Street. A female in her teens with serious injuries to her upper body was transported to hospital in stable condition.

Infant Homicide - Arrest: C22-91474

On May 3, 2022, the Winnipeg Police Service was alerted to the report of a newborn infant placed in a garbage bin in the 400 block of Boyd Avenue.

North District officers attended and located a deceased infant girl within a garbage bin in the back lane. A female adult was identified as giving birth to the baby and arrested at a nearby residence by officers. She was transported to hospital and subsequently admitted for medical precautions.

The Child Abuse Unit continued the investigation, and on May 10, investigators placed the accused under arrest without incident.

Weapons – Arrest: C22-121823

On June 6, 2022, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Guns & Gangs officers of the Winnipeg Police Service observed a male exiting a yard of a residence in the 400 block of Langside Street.

As the male walked toward them, officers observed a knife on his person and quickly placed him in custody after a short struggle. Officers searched and seized the following items:

- sawed-off rifle (loaded)

- extended rifle magazine holding 16 bullets

- black folding knife - brass knuckles

Weapons – Arrest: C22-122457

On June 7, 2022, at approximately 5:00 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 100 block of Notre Dame Street for the report of a male observed in possession of a firearm.

General Patrol officers from the West and East Districts attended and determined that the male had returned to his residence after being observed brandishing a rifle on the street.

Officers directed the male to exit his residence and safely placed him under arrest without incident. Officers seized the following items from his residence.

- bolt action rifle

Firearm – Arrest: C22-122285

On June 6, 2022, shortly after 11:00 p.m., General Patrol Units from the Central District responded for the report of a male at Main/Higgins waving around a firearm.

Police units arrived in a well-populated pedestrian area and observed the accused walking southbound, still armed with a firearm. The accused complied with police directions dropping the firearm; however, it unexpectedly discharged a round when it landed. Nobody was injured, and he was taken into custody.
