On June 6, 2022, shortly after 11:00 p.m., General Patrol Units from the Central District responded for the report of a male at Main/Higgins waving around a firearm.
Police units arrived in a well-populated pedestrian area and observed the accused walking southbound, still armed with a firearm. The accused complied with police directions dropping the firearm; however, it unexpectedly discharged a round when it landed. Nobody was injured, and he was taken into custody.
Recovered was an improvised firing device derived from a sawed-off pellet gun and 18 rounds of .22 calibre ammunition.
Blake Allan Wade MORAND, 35, of Winnipeg, was charged with the following offences:
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Prohibited
- Possess Weapon Dangerous Purpose
- Possess Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition
- Possess Firearm Contrary to Order x 3
He was detained in custody.
