During the morning of June 8, 2022, members of the Guns & Gangs Unit began an investigation regarding a male who was believed to be illegally in possession of a firearm.
At approximately 10:15 a.m., the male was placed under arrest at a hotel in the 1650 block of Regent Avenue West. He was found to be in possession of brass knuckles when taken into custody. A bag containing 12 grams of crack cocaine and 17.5 grams of cocaine was also seized.
At approximately 11:20 a.m., Guns & Gangs Unit investigators, with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team and East District officers, executed a Criminal Code search warrant at a residence in the 600 block of Sandhurst Avenue.
A number of items were seized, including the following:
- A Ruger Mini-14 semi-automatic rifle
- A .223 calibre bore sight
- A riflescope
- An angled fore-grip
- Two magazines that were taped together and loaded with .223 calibre ammunition
- A magazine loaded with 7.62 calibre ammunition
- A large amount of other assorted ammunition
- 1 gram of methamphetamine
- Two digital scales contaminated with a residue
Skylar Andrew McPherson, a 29-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
- Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized (x4)
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (x5)
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
- Possession of Scheduled Substance – Methamphetamine
He was detained.
