Weapons – Arrest: C22-178616

On August 8, 2022, at approximately 1:45 p.m., a North District Community Support unit was patrolling the area of Burrows Avenue and Charles Street when they observed a male on a bicycle in breach of the Highway Traffic Act.

Officers stopped the male, and he was found to be in possession of two large knives, which were seized. The bicycle was found to have been stolen from a residence in the St. Matthews neighbourhood on July 22, 2022, and will be returned to its owner.

Firearm & Drug Offences – Arrests: C22-177633

On August 7, 2022, at approximately 9:58 a.m., a North District Community Support unit was in the area of Burrows Avenue and Salter Street when they observed a male known to them as having an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The male was one of two passengers in a passing taxi cab.

Officers subsequently stopped the cab in the 300 block of Mountain Avenue. A backpack, which had been between the two passengers, was found to contain a number of items, including the following:

Robbery – Investigation: C22-176677

On August 6, 2022, at 5:05 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a residence in the 600 block of Stella Avenue for a report of a male that had been robbed and stabbed.

Upon arrival, officers located an injured 48-year-old male and administered emergency medical care – including the use of a chest seal. He was transported to a hospital in unstable condition and was later upgraded to stable condition.

Stabbing – Investigation: C22-176541

On August 6, 2022, at 12:46 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a residence in the 400 block of Sherbrook Street for a report of a female that had been stabbed.

Upon arrival, officers located an injured 43-year-old female and administered emergency medical care – including the use of a tourniquet and a chest seal. She was transported to a hospital in critical condition and was later upgraded to stable condition.

Firearm & Drug Offences – Arrest: C22-175393

On August 4, 2022, at approximately 8:45 p.m., a North District Community Support unit was in the area of Manitoba Avenue and Powers Street when they observed a male known to them (as being wanted for several warrants, including a Canada-wide warrant for revocation of his parole) as a lone passenger in a passing taxi cab.

The police unit caught up to the cab near Salter Street and Redwood Avenue, at which time they initiated a traffic stop, and the male fled on foot.

After a brief chase, the male was taken into custody in the 300 block of Redwood Avenue.

Child Sexual Exploitation – Arrest: R22-8464

Beginning in March of 2022, the Child Exploitation Unit and Child Abuse Unit entered into a joint investigation regarding the sexual assault of three female youths in the City of Winnipeg.

Investigators believe that between December 2021 and February 2022, the suspect lured the victims to several residences within the city with the promise of drugs and alcohol. The three female victims, aged 13 to 16, attended the residences, were provided with drugs and alcohol, and were forced to commit various sexual acts.

Search Warrants – Arrests: R22-38782

During the latter part of July 2022, the Major Crimes and Property Units entered into an investigation regarding numerous Commercial Break & Enter incidents which occurred primarily on the west side of Winnipeg.

Through their investigation, two residences and several individuals were identified.

Aggravated Assault – Arrest: C22-172568

On August 1, 2022, at approximately 7:00 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 600 block of Alfred Avenue for the report of a person that had been stabbed.

Officers from the North District attended and located a female youth victim suffering from multiple stab wounds. Officers provided emergency medical care through the use of a chest seal before ambulance arrival. The victim was transported to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable.

Homicide – Arrest: C22-127134

Update:

The Homicide Unit assumed the investigation regarding Austin CHIEF, who was shot in the 600 block of Broadway Avenue on June 12, 2022.

Officers of the Central District located the injured adult male and provided emergency medical care. The victim was transported to hospital in unstable condition; however, he succumbed to his injuries.

Investigators identified a suspect in the incident and, on August 2, attended the Manitoba Youth Centre where he was being lodged and placed him under arrest.
