Weapons – Arrest: C22-181351

On August 11, 2022, at approximately 2:30 p.m., members of the North District Community Support Unit observed an adult male operating a bicycle in breach of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) in the 500 block of Pritchard Avenue.

Officers attempted to stop the male; however he fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit, officers arrested the uncooperative male and placed him in custody.

The male was found to be in possession of the following items:

Drug Trafficking Investigation – Arrests: C22-181232

Beginning in August 2022, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Guns & Gangs Unit conducted an investigation involving the trafficking of methamphetamine within the City of Winnipeg.

On August 11, 2022, the Guns & Gangs Unit observed four suspects operating a stolen 2014 Cadillac ATS in the 400 block of Marion Street. Officers placed four adults under arrest and seized the following items from the vehicle:

“Grandparent Scam” – Arrests: C22-161861

On July 28, 2022, the Winnipeg Police Service issued a public advisory in response to an increase in "grandparent scams" targeting the elderly.

Update:

The Financial Crimes Unit continued its investigation and identified two female suspects believed to be involved. On July 29, assisted by officers of the East District Community Support Unit, investigators arrested both suspects in the 1100 block of Sommerville Avenue without incident.

2022 Winnipeg Police Service Public Opinion Survey

Every two years, a public opinion telephone survey is conducted through an independent agency to ask citizens about their view of the Winnipeg Police Service and their opinions about crime and public safety in Winnipeg. This year, on behalf of the Winnipeg Police Board, interviewers from PRA Inc, an independent market research firm, will randomly call individuals in all areas of Winnipeg beginning August 15th, 2022 to complete the 15 minute survey.

Stabbing – Arrest: C22-179767

On August 10, at approximately 7:00 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 800 block of Main Street for the report of a male who had been stabbed.

Officers from the Central District attended and located a 65-year-old male victim suffering from a stab wound to the upper body. Emergency medical care was provided on scene by paramedics and did not require the victim to be transported to hospital.

Officers located an adult female matching the suspect's description at her residence and safely placed her under arrest.

Search Warrants – Arrest: C22- 177460

On August 7, 2022, the Major Crimes Unit entered into an investigation regarding a shooting at a residence in the 300 block of Bonner Avenue.

During the investigation, officers identified an adult male suspect. On August 8, assisted by the Tactical Support Team, the Major Crimes Unit executed search warrants at the suspect’s residence in the 2700 block of Main Street.

Investigators seized several firearms, including a Girsan 9mm Luger handgun, ammunition, and spent shell casings.

Weapons – Arrest: C22-179696

On August 9, 2022, at approximately 7:30 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the Kildonan Place Shopping Mall located at 1555 Regent Avenue for the report of a male observed by mall security to be armed with a machete.

Officers from the East District attended and located the adult male suspect nearby, placing him under arrest without incident. The suspect was found to be in possession of a machete, a sawed-off .22 caliber rifle, and ammunition at the time of his arrest.

Homicide – Public Assistance: C20-187787

August 9, 2022, marks the 2nd-anniversary date of the murder of Anthony Evaristo GONZALES, a 30-year-old male of Winnipeg, which the Homicide Unit continues to investigate actively.

On August 9, 2020, at approximately 1:20 a.m., GONZALES was grievously assaulted by a group of unknown individuals outside an establishment in the 1400 block of St. Matthews Avenue. The suspects fled the area, and GONZALES subsequently succumbed to his injuries.

Weapon – Arrest: C22-179084

On August 8, 2022, at approximately 11:35 p.m., a Cadet unit was patrolling the area of Notre Dame Avenue and Balmoral Street when they came across a female in contravention of the Liquor, Gaming and Cannabis Control Act.

The female refused to comply with directions and was detained. She was found to be in possession of a sawed-off 20-gauge shotgun, which was later seized. Central District General Patrol officers subsequently attended and assisted with the matter.

On August 8, 2022, at approximately 4:05 p.m., a Central District Community Support unit was patrolling the area of Notre Dame Avenue and Hargrave Street when they observed a male on a bicycle in breach of the Highway Traffic Act.

Officers attempted to stop the male; however, he fled on the bicycle and eventually lost control of it in the 400 block of Young Street. He attempted to run on foot but was quickly apprehended. The male was found to be in possession of a sawed-off .22 calibre rifle, which was seized.
