Homicide – Arrest: C22-127134

Update:

The Homicide Unit assumed the investigation regarding Austin CHIEF, who was shot in the 600 block of Broadway Avenue on June 12, 2022.

Officers of the Central District located the injured adult male and provided emergency medical care. The victim was transported to hospital in unstable condition; however, he succumbed to his injuries.

Investigators identified a suspect in the incident and, on August 2, attended the Manitoba Youth Centre where he was being lodged and placed him under arrest.

The suspect and victim were not previously known to one another.

Denzel Seth WOOD, 19, of Winnipeg, has been charged with the following offence:

- Second Degree Murder

He remains in custody.

The Homicide Unit is continuing to investigate and seeks the public’s assistance. Anyone who may have information regarding this homicide or have video surveillance within this area is asked to call the Homicide Unit at 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477 (TIPS).

As previously released:

On June 12, 2022, at approximately 5:00 a.m., General Patrol officers responded to an apartment block in the 600 block of Broadway Avenue for a report of a seriously injured male. He was transported to hospital in unstable condition and succumbed to his injuries.

The deceased victim has been identified as Austin Mark CHIEF, 24, of Winnipeg.

The Homicide Unit is continuing to investigate and seeks the public’s assistance. Anyone who may have information regarding this homicide or have video surveillance within this area is asked to call the Homicide Unit at 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477 (TIPS).
