Firearm & Drug Offences – Arrest: C22-175393

On August 4, 2022, at approximately 8:45 p.m., a North District Community Support unit was in the area of Manitoba Avenue and Powers Street when they observed a male known to them (as being wanted for several warrants, including a Canada-wide warrant for revocation of his parole) as a lone passenger in a passing taxi cab.

The police unit caught up to the cab near Salter Street and Redwood Avenue, at which time they initiated a traffic stop, and the male fled on foot.

After a brief chase, the male was taken into custody in the 300 block of Redwood Avenue.

He was found to be in possession of a number of items, including the following:

- 10.1 grams of methamphetamine (estimated street value of $500)
- 31.75 grams of marijuana (estimated street value of $300)
- Approximately ten crushed Percocet pills (estimated street value of $50)

A backpack left behind in the taxi cab was found to contain:

- A sawed-off .22 calibre rifle (with the stock removed)
- A BB gun replica of a Glock handgun

Sydney Eric Paul, a 26-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of a Weapon
- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (x3)
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Oxycodone
- Possession for the Purpose of Distributing Cannabis

Paul was also processed on three warrants: a public interest warrant, a warrant for being unlawfully at large and the warrant for revocation of his parole.

He was detained.
