On October 8, at approximately 4:15 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report of a male who had been assaulted in the first block of Stadacona Street.

Officers from the East District attended and located a 25-year-old male victim suffering from upper-body injuries. He was transported to hospital in stable condition. Two adult male suspects fled on foot before the arrival of police.

Shortly thereafter, officers observed the two suspects walking on Henderson Highway near Hespeler Avenue and safely arrested them without incident.

Through their investigation, officers learned the victim was walking on Stadacona Street when he was approached from behind by two adult male suspects. The suspects demanded cigarettes as well as the groceries the victim was carrying. When their request was denied, the suspects proceeded to physically attack the victim in an unprovoked manner before fleeing on foot.

The victim and the suspects were previously unknown to one another.

A 25-year-old male and a 28-year-old male, both from Winnipeg, are facing the charge of Robbery.

Both were released on Undertakings as mandated by the Criminal Code.
