Sexual Assault & Child Assault – Arrest

On October 11, 2022, the Winnipeg Police Service arrested a male for two unrelated incidents involving a sexual assault on a Winnipeg Transit bus and a physical assault on an elementary school student.

On September 26, 2022, the Winnipeg Police Service received a report involving an adult female who was sexually assaulted while aboard a transit bus. It was learned that on September 25, at approximately 6:00 p.m., the female passenger was groped by an unknown male passenger while travelling eastbound Regent on the bus. The victim confronted the suspect and advised the driver. The report was forwarded to the Sex Crimes Unit for further investigation.

On October 11, 2022, at approximately 8:30 a.m., Police were contacted in response to an assault of an elementary school student in a Transcona neighbourhood. The child was punched by an unknown male when walking in front of the school.

School staff intervened and contacted Police.

The child sustained a minor injury and was treated and released by paramedics.

Police immediately located the suspect nearby, where he was taken into custody. The assigned School Resource Officer recognized the male as the suspect in the previous bus sexual assault. Sex Crimes Unit investigators confirmed the male to be the same suspect.

A 31-year-old male was charged with sexual assault and assault. He was released on an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code.
