Voter eligibility for the 2016 City of Winnipeg By-Election

Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg is reminding citizens about the requirements to be eligible to vote for School Trustee in the Winnipeg School Division (Ward 7) in the upcoming 2016 City of Winnipeg By-Election which will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2016.

Subject to Sections 21 and 22 of The Municipal Councils and School Boards Elections Act, a person is eligible to vote in the by-election, if they meet all of the following criteria:

Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg’s “Know Your Zone” app is now available for free download at the Apple App Store and coming soon to the Google Play App Store.

Developed within existing resources by the City of Winnipeg, app information can be viewed in either English or French and will provide Winnipeggers with easy to access, up-to-date snow zone information when a Residential Parking Ban is called this winter.

Reminder: Public invited to open house for the Winnipeg Zoning By-law Review

Winnipeg, MB - Citizens are invited to attend a public open house on proposed amendments to the Winnipeg Zoning By-law No. 200/2006.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service fire response update 2:Dugald Road

Winnipeg, MB - Following a motion presented at the Standing Policy Committee on Protection, Community Services and Parks on Friday, October 14, the Public Service was asked to provide an update on the fire in the 3000 block of Dugald Road which occurred on Thursday, October 13, 2016.

In summary, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a fire in a silo at a commercial business in the 3000 block of Dugald Road on Thursday, October 13. The silo was partially emptied and crews extinguished the fire using water and foam. Fire crews left the scene at 20:35.

New St. Vital pathway named after prominent member of theMétis community

Winnipeg, MB - Today, City Councillor Brian Mayes (St. Vital) opened Sentier Gabriel Dufault Pathway, which leads from John Bruce Park to an observation area with a view over the historic Riel family mill site.

The pathway is named in honour of the late French and Métis advocate Gabriel Dufault whose greatest passion was his work with the Métis community.

Amendments proposed to Impact Fee Implementation

Winnipeg, MB - Following a pause to allow for greater consultation with community stakeholders and industry groups, significant amendments are being recommended to an impact fee initially proposed in September's administrative report Mayor Brian Bowman and Councillor John Orlikow, Chair of Standing Policy Committee on Property and Development, Heritage, and Downtown Development announced today.

Temporary railway crossing closure on Waverley Street between Taylor Avenue and Wilkes Avenue on October 16

Winnipeg, MB - Waverley Street between Taylor Avenue and Wilkes Avenue will be temporarily closed to northbound and southbound traffic starting at 7:00 a.m. this Sunday, October 16 for a CN railway crossing re-profiling project. Waverley Street will reopen to traffic at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Motorists are advised to allow for additional travel time or to use alternate routes in this area to reach their destinations.
