Voter eligibility for the 2016 City of Winnipeg By-Election

Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg is reminding citizens about the requirements to be eligible to vote for School Trustee in the Winnipeg School Division (Ward 7) in the upcoming 2016 City of Winnipeg By-Election which will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2016.

Subject to Sections 21 and 22 of The Municipal Councils and School Boards Elections Act, a person is eligible to vote in the by-election, if they meet all of the following criteria:

  • a Canadian citizen; and
  • 18 years of age or older on By-Election day (November 5, 2016);
  • an actual resident of the School Division for a period of at least 6 months (since May 5, 2016); and
  • an actual resident in the School Division Ward on By-Election day (November 5, 2016)

Please note that Non-residents do not have the right to vote for School Trustee.
Citizens uncertain if they are eligible to vote are urged to contact 311 to ensure they meet eligibility requirements. Voters notices will be mailed out in the coming days to eligible voters who are on the voters list, which will identify their voting place, voting station and hours of voting.
