Twinning of Keewatin Street/Dr. Jose Rizal Way now fully open

Winnipeg, MB - Today, at the intersection of Keewatin Street/Dr. Jose Rizal Way, City Councillor for the Point Douglas Ward, Mike Pagtakhan, together with Old Kildonan Ward City Councillor, Devi Sharma, and other community leaders, officially cut the ribbon and opened the newly twinned Keewatin Street/Dr. Jose Rizal Way from Inkster Boulevard to Water Ridge Path.

Brookside Cemetery tours commemorate the significance of Remembrance Day

Winnipeg, MB - Brookside Cemetery is encouraging the public to visit and remember the more than 11,000 war Veterans interred in its Field of Honour during the week prior to Remembrance Day.

In addition to free, organized tours, Veterans from the Second World War, the Korean War and Peacekeeping missions will be on hand to provide firsthand accounts of Canada's military history. As well, representatives from the Royal Winnipeg Rifles Museum will provide memorabilia displays and share related stories.

City Hall gets spruced up!

Winnipeg, MB - City Hall will get spruced up this Sunday with the arrival of this year's Christmas tree. The 40-foot Colorado spruce will be donated by East Kildonan homeowners Gail and Gerald Bordian.

“We moved here in 1989 and the tree was about 10 feet tall at that time. My son would climb up on a ladder to decorate it with Christmas lights,” said homeowner Gail Bordian. “Over the years it’s grown too big so we decided to donate it to City Hall for their Christmas tree.”

2018 General Assessment for property owners underway

Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg 2018 General Assessment for property owners is currently underway. Properties in Winnipeg are assessed every two years to ensure assessment values keep pace with changing values in the real estate market.

The last General Assessment occurred in 2016 and updated market values to an April 1, 2014 reference date. The 2018 General Assessment will update market values to an April 1, 2016 reference date.

The average assessment increase for residential properties ranges between 1% and 5%.

City of Winnipeg Investing in Riverbank Stabilization

Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg is continuing its investment in riverbank stabilization through the Lyndale Drive Retaining Wall Rehabilitation Project, which involves removal of the existing retaining wall and undertaking over 500 lineal metres of riverbank stabilization work this winter.

Let's Talk 2017 Budget Consultations Conclude This Week

Winnipeg, MB - The City's 2017 budget consultations will be wrapping up this weekend.

There are three more opportunities for the public to participate in the community consultations. The community consultations are open to all members of the public and community organizations, and provide residents an opportunity to meet face-to-face to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing Winnipeg, and to share their ideas with administrative and elected officials on the upcoming capital and operating budgets.
