Winnipeg Transit options for NHL Heritage Classic

Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg is excited to welcome the 2016 NHL Heritage Classic to our city! To help get patrons safely to and from the games and pre-game celebrations, Winnipeg Transit has several route options for both Saturday, October 22 and Sunday, October 23.

As this is a large-scale special event which will result in the city being very busy, especially on Pembina Highway, it is expected that buses servicing the Fort Garry and Investors Group Field area will also be busy. Regular Transit riders and NHL Heritage Classic patrons are advised to plan ahead and leave early to ensure a timely arrival to their destinations.

NHL Heritage Classic patrons are also encouraged to check for detailed special service information on Winnipeg Transit’s website before leaving for games and pre-game celebrations.

NHL Heritage Classic game day highlights

  • Regular fares will be collected on all Winnipeg Transit service TO the game. This also applies to Handi-Transit service. Fares may be paid using your peggo card, paper tickets or passes, or cash (exact fare).
  • Post-game passengers can show their game day ticket for a free ride home when boarding buses after the game.
  • Park & Ride service is operated by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and will begin 3 hours prior to game time.
  • The 78 Crosstown West, which normally does not operate on Sundays, will operate at 20 minute intervals on Sunday, October 23, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Winnipeg Transit has several regular routes that will see additional service before and after the NHL Heritage Classic. Winnipeg Transit will be adding additional service to all of these routes on both Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday October 22

Running Back Shuttle

The Running Back Shuttle will run from Investors Group Field in a clockwise loop west on Chancellor Matheson, north on Pembina, and south on University Crescent back to Investors Group Field. The Running Back Shuttle will begin operating 90 minutes before game time and will operate every 10 minutes. The last Running Back Shuttle will arrive at Investors Group Field 10 minutes after the event or game is scheduled to begin and will not operate after the game.

Catch extra route 160 service on Chancellor Matheson after the game to get back to Pembina Highway. Buses will run west on Chancellor Matheson and north on Pembina making all stops between Investors Group Field and Downtown.

Passengers using the Running Back Shuttle can ride FREE by showing the operator their game day ticket.

Park & Ride Service

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers operate seven special event Park & Rides located across the city that provide non-stop service to and from Investors Group Field.

Post-Game Service

All Park & Ride service and extra Regular Service on routes 75, 78 (via Cambridge and via Kenaston) and 160 will be lined up on Chancellor Matheson heading west towards Pembina Highway. Route 162/170 can be caught at its regular stop - on University Crescent.
