New pilot project aims to improve access to information on City services

Chatbot open on winnipeg.ca homepage
Chatbot can communicate in 17 languages and is available 24/7 during the pilot.

When you need information on City programs or services, our website and 311 operators provide a wealth of knowledge. Now, you have another option right at your fingertips: our new AI Chatbot.

Available on winnipeg.ca, Chatbot can quickly find what you’re looking for on the website. It can also direct you to the right online form to submit a service request.

Whether you need to know what day your recycling will be picked up or want to report a pothole, Chatbot can help.

“Our goal is to make it easier to get information about City services,” said Felicia Wiltshire, Director of Customer Service & Communications.

Chatbot is ready to assist you 24/7 during the pilot.

It also provides another option for residents who do not speak English or French as their first language. Powered by Google’s Gemini AI, it can communicate in 17 languages. However, it is important to note that the webpages it returns will be in English.

Start a conversation today

To get started, simply click on the Chatbot icon at the bottom right corner of any page on our website. You can ask a question as if you’re having a conversation with a person. It uses artificial intelligence to understand and respond based on information on the website.

Chatbot can help you with:

  • Quickly finding relevant pages on winnipeg.ca
  • Finding the right online form to submit a service request

While Chatbot does a fantastic job of finding information that exists on our website, it doesn’t support open-ended discussions or case-specific inquiries. For these types of questions, it is still best to contact 311.

Your feedback is important

We are currently piloting the Chatbot to test how useful you find it. At the end of each chat, you can provide feedback on whether the answer was helpful. You can also report a problem or provide feedback using an online form.

We will use this feedback to evaluate the pilot and decide its future.
