Robbery with Firearm – Arrests: C22-211758

On September 13, 2022, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Central District Patrol members responded to a fight call that turned out to be a stabbing at a vendor in the 600 block of Balmoral Street.

Officers located a male in his twenties who was stabbed and bleeding profusely. They administered emergency medical care, including a chest seal patch, and he was transported to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded.

Robbery with Firearm – Arrest: C22-210390

On September 12, 2022, at approximately 5:00 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report of a male robbed at gunpoint during a pre-arranged Bitcoin transaction with someone from social media.

Police met with an injured 19-year-old male seeking medical assistance at the hospital. He indicated that he was held at gunpoint, assaulted, tied up and driven around by the suspect who demanded his money. When the vehicle eventually stopped, the victim made his escape and ran for help.

Stabbings – Arrest: C22-184730

On September 12, 2022, the Major Crimes Unit arrested an adult male involved in three stabbings in the Disraeli/Princess neighbourhood in August.

On August 15, at approximately 12:30 p.m., police responded to the report of a male in his forties who was stabbed. He reported that he was confronted by an unknown male on a bike in the 100 block of Princess Street who yelled a racial slur, stabbed him in the lower body without provocation, and rode away.

Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision/Firearm – Arrests: C22-210732

On September 12, 2022, at approximately 11:30 p.m., General Patrol officers responded to a serious motor vehicle collision at Grey Street and Munroe Avenue. One of the vehicles (containing three occupants) collided with another single-occupant vehicle and then crashed into a hydro pole.

Assault – Arrests: R22-28879

In June 2022, the Winnipeg Police Service Sex Crimes Unit began an investigation in response to the report of abuse of residents at a personal care home in the Sturgeon Heights neighbourhood.

A lengthy investigation determined that between August 2021 and January 2022, two health care aids used inappropriate physical actions on separate occasions to gain the compliance of five elderly residents while performing their daily care duties.

None of the victims required medical treatment as a result of these assaults.

Drug Offences – Arrests: C22-199146

In August 2022, the Guns & Gangs Unit began an investigation into two males suspected of trafficking cocaine in Winnipeg. It was believed that the cocaine was being stored at two locations – in a condominium in the 1100 block of St. Anne’s Road and within a pair of units at a nearby self-storage facility.

During the morning of September 1, a male suspect was located near the self-storage facility and placed under arrest. He was found to have 2 ounces of crack cocaine and $265 in cash. A female was also arrested and found to have .9 grams of crack cocaine.

Firearms & Drug Offences – Arrests: C22-206542

In August 2022, the Guns & Gangs Unit began a firearms-related investigation, culminating with a search warrant for a suite at an apartment building in the 100 block of Jarvis Avenue.

The search warrant was executed on the morning of September 9, and two females were arrested. A male suspect attempted to barricade himself in an adjacent suite but was also taken into custody. He was found to have $685 in cash.

Firearms & Drug Offences – Arrest: C22-209472

In September 2022, members of the Guns & Gangs Unit began an investigation into a male suspect that was believed to have firearms and drugs in a suite of an apartment building in the first 100 block of Clayton Drive.

Investigators obtained a search warrant, which was executed the evening of September 11. A male suspect was taken into custody and found to have 42 grams of cocaine (estimated street value of $4,200) and $420 in cash. A search of the apartment suite and a related vehicle resulted in the seizure of a number of items, including the following:

Sexual Abuse in Sport – Public Education

The Winnipeg Police Service Community Relations Unit is committed to providing education and awareness around various topics impacting the community. At the start of this new school year (for all ages), the issue of sexual exploitation and abuse in sports is a relevant topic to discuss. A call for action and change is at the forefront for educators, law enforcement and the media.

The Winnipeg Police Service is creating new and relevant presentations for parents, athletes and sporting organizations to educate and prevent sexual abuse in sport.

Sexual Exploitation/Assault – Arrest: R22-15958

In April 2022, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Sex Crimes Unit was contacted by eight adults who reported historical incidents of sexual exploitation and abuse by their former high school football coach from the late 1990s to the 2000s.

The accused taught physical education and coached football at Churchill High School and, subsequently, Vincent Massey Collegiate for approximately two decades.
