On September 12, 2022, at approximately 5:00 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report of a male robbed at gunpoint during a pre-arranged Bitcoin transaction with someone from social media.
Police met with an injured 19-year-old male seeking medical assistance at the hospital. He indicated that he was held at gunpoint, assaulted, tied up and driven around by the suspect who demanded his money. When the vehicle eventually stopped, the victim made his escape and ran for help.
Later that evening, officers identified a male suspect and took him into custody in the 400 block of Broadway.
Walid ABDISALAM, a 22-year-old male of Winnipeg, was charged with the following offences:
- Armed Robbery Using a Firearm
- Pointing a Firearm
- Assault with a Weapon x 2
- Forcible Confinement
- Uttering Threats to Kill
- Fail to Comply with Undertaking
- Possession of a Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon Contrary to Order x 2
He was detained in custody.
