Winnipeggers asked to review and provide comment on draft master plan for off-leash dog areas

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is seeking feedback on the draft Off-Leash Dog Areas Master Plan (OLAMP), developed to address and respond to growing interest and demand for off-leash dog areas in Winnipeg.

In recent years, use of off-leash dog areas has significantly increased, and as a result, many of the City’s off-leash facilities experience overuse. The OLAMP will address the needs of all park users and will develop a vision and implementation strategy for off-leash dog areas throughout Winnipeg.

New Member Appointed to Executive Policy Committee

City accepting applications for the Vehicles for Hire Advisory Committee

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is accepting applications to be a member of the Vehicles for Hire Advisory Committee. The City recognizes the need for ongoing dialogue to ensure vehicles for hire issues are dealt with in a manner most relevant to passengers and those working in the industry. Advisory committee members will discuss vehicles for hire and provide their input directly to the Winnipeg Parking Authority.

Temporary ban on open-air permits still in effectBan extended to outdoor receptacles

Winnipeg, MB - The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service reminds all residents that all open-air fires are temporarily prohibited due to the extreme dry weather conditions in the Winnipeg area which increases the risk of dangerous fires, such as grass, brush, and wildfires. The ban has been extended to fires in approved outdoor receptacles on public or private property.

The ban will be lifted when environmental conditions improve.

City awards renovation grants to 14 community centres

Winnipeg, MB - Mayor Brian Bowman announced today that 14 City-owned community centres will receive funding for renovations.

“The City of Winnipeg’s Community Centre Renovation Grant is making a positive difference in our communities through investing in important gathering places,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “I’m pleased to see investments in improvements and upgrades through this grant so Winnipeggers can continue to enjoy these spaces well into the future.”

Groundbreaking ceremony celebrates beginning of construction on new Freight House Recreation Centre spray pad

Winnipeg, MB - At an event this morning, Mayor Brian Bowman and Councillor Mike Pagtakhan officially broke ground on the new Freight House Recreation Centre spray pad.

“Spray pads are a great way to cool off during Winnipeg’s hot summer months,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “A spray pad at Freight House Recreation Centre will provide an affordable recreation option for summer activities for families and children, and I am pleased we were able to support its construction this year.”

Mayoral hopefuls can officially register for 2018 Civic Election

Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg announced today that the campaign period for Winnipeggers seeking election to the Office of Mayor is officially open.

The 2018 City of Winnipeg Municipal and School Boards Election will be held on Wednesday, October 24, 2018. Eligible voters will have the opportunity to cast ballots for Mayor, Councillors, and School Trustees.
