Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is getting ready for this year’s insect control season and started its environmentally friendly, aggressive mosquito larviciding program this week. Larviciding is the most effective approach to control mosquitoes, as it targets mosquito larvae in the aquatic stage before they emerge as adults.

City’s elected officials and employees to observe 2018 National Day of Mourning

Winnipeg, MB - City of Winnipeg elected officials and employees will join thousands of other Canadians in observing Canada’s National Day of Mourning which is held each year on April 28. The National Day of Mourning is held to commemorate workers who have been injured or killed in the workplace as well as workers who have become ill as a result of their work.

New Osborne Village Safety Program Receives Funding Support

Winnipeg, MB – A new foot patrol ambassador program being established by the Osborne Village Business Improvement Zone (BIZ) will benefit from $30,000 in civic support during its initial year of operations Mayor Brian Bowman announced today.

City launches 2019 Budget consultation

Winnipeg, MB – Today, the City of Winnipeg launched its budget public engagement process, Let’s Build the Budget Together, to provide input for the 2019 budget development process. Winnipeggers can provide feedback until May 23, 2018.

This year, the City is interested in Winnipegger’s feedback on the annual budget and the state of the City’s infrastructure to work together towards sustainable budget decisions. The City’s financial challenges and infrastructure deficit cannot be fixed overnight, but we can start with the 2019 budget process.

Assiniboine river walk from the Osborne Bridge to the Main Street Bridge temporarily closed

Winnipeg, MB – With the normal spring rise in the river level, the Assiniboine River walk from the Osborne Bridge to the Main Street Bridge is temporarily closed to pedestrian traffic. Barricades have been installed indicating the walkway is closed.

Light standards along the Assiniboine River walk have also been temporarily removed in order to prevent potential damage from river ice during the spring break-up. The public is reminded there will be no lighting along the walk during evening/night.
