Thursday Theme Days at the Living Prairie Museum in July and August

Winnipeg, MB – Register for a family Theme Day activity at the Living Prairie Museum. Free, family Theme Days take place on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., starting on July 5 until August 23.

Activities include a presentation on a prairie topic followed by an activity. Our one-hour programs are best suited for ages 5 – 11. Please dress for the conditions!

Registration is available two weeks prior to each Theme Day. Friends of the Living Prairie Museum members may register at any time. Registration is limited to families; child care groups may book an education program by appointment.

July 5 – Outstanding Owls: Come learn about local owl species and dissect their pellets to discover their prey.

July 12 – Ludicrous Lepidoptera: Learn lots about moths, butterflies, and their differences. Make your own wings!

July 19 – Super Powered Species: Explore some of the outstanding adaptations of our prairie species and build your own superhero.

July 26 – Invasive Investigation: Unravel the mystery of who is damaging our prairie. Identify which invasive species are the culprits.

August 2 – Burgeoning Birders Blitz: Join our introduction to birding! Learn about our backyard species and how to recognize them.

August 9 – Brilliant Bison Behaviour: Discover one of the prairie’s keystone species, how they survive, and how they used to rule the land.

August 16 – Citizen Science: Explore the tall grass prairie through the eyes of a scientist. Learn the field skills to be a prairie ecologist.

August 23 – Magnificent Microbes: Take a peek into the world of microbes – those fantastic engines of life in grasslands. Make your own microbe puppet!
