Winnipeg’s Spring Curbside Giveaway Weekend just around the corner, May 12 and 13

Winnipeg, MB – Are you doing some spring cleaning and have some items in good condition that you’ll never use again? Residents are invited to take advantage of this year’s spring giveaway weekend on May 12 and 13, 2018. This is a great opportunity to find a new owner for those reusable, unwanted items taking up space in your home or to browse the curbs for some great finds.

Grass/brush fire update

Winnipeg, MB – Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to a number of grass/brush fire incidents on Tuesday, May 8, including:

Waverley Street
At approximately 07:54, WFPS crews responded to a grass fire in the area of Waverley Street and Taylor Avenue. No injuries reported, and the cause is under investigation.

Northbound Hargrave Street between St. Mary Avenue and Portage Avenue to be closed Wednesday, May 9

Winnipeg, MB – Northbound Hargrave Street between St. Mary Avenue and Portage Avenue will be closed from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9 for construction.

Access to parkades on Hargrave Street will be maintained.

Motorists should allow additional travel time to get to their destinations, and use alternate routes.

Wildland fire update

Winnipeg, MB – Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to a number of significant wildland fire incidents on Monday, May 7, and overnight on Tuesday, May 8, including:

Roblin Boulevard & Perimeter Highway
At approximately 17:19 on Monday, May 7, WFPS crews responded to a wildland fire in the area of Roblin Boulevard and the Perimeter Highway. No injuries reported, no damage to structures, and the cause is under investigation.

City encourages residents to plan ahead for emergencies

Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg is encouraging residents to use Emergency Preparedness Week to learn about planning ahead for emergencies. The annual event takes place during the first full week of May and encourages the public to be prepared to manage on their own for at least the first 72 hours of an emergency, enabling first responders to focus on those in urgent need.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews respond to 5 wildland fires over weekend

Winnipeg, MB – Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to a number of significant wildland fire incidents this past weekend, including:

Charleswood Road
At approximately 20:07 on Friday, May 4, WFPS crews responded to a report of two fires southwest of Charleswood Road. The first crew arrived to find multiple spot fires, including one in a farmer’s field nearby. No injuries reported, no damage to structures, no evacuations required. The cause is under investigation.

Cornish Library to temporarily close for renovations

Winnipeg, MB – Cornish Library, located at 20 West Gate, will be closed as of Saturday, May 12 at 5 p.m. for renovations. Construction will take approximately one year, with an expected reopening in the summer of 2019.

Built in 1915, Cornish Library has served the community for over a century. Renovations will ensure the building meets the needs of today’s customers and future generations.
