Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Manitoba Avenue Fire

Winnipeg, MB - At 11:21 p.m. on March 22, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in a multi-family home in the 400 block of Manitoba Avenue. Once on scene, crews launched an interior offensive attack, very quickly bringing the fire under control. The suite where the fire occurred suffered significant fire, smoke and water damage.

Thirteen paramedics achieve the highest level of training available in Manitoba

Winnipeg, MB - At a graduation ceremony this morning, the City of Winnipeg and partners celebrated the success of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service’s 13 new Advanced Care Paramedics (ACP).

The graduates completed a challenging three-year program, offered by the WFPS consisting of classroom learning, as well as hospital and field training to achieve the highest level of paramedic education available in Manitoba.

Council Votes to Adopt Preliminary 2019 Operating and Capital Budgets

Winnipeg, MB - Council voted today to adopt the 2019 preliminary operating and capital budgets for the City of Winnipeg by a vote of 11-5.

“Despite some challenges, this year’s budget does a lot of good things for our city,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “I am pleased Council voted today to adopt the preliminary budget, and look forward to working with Council and the public service to implement the budget over the coming year.”

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Beverley Street Fire

Winnipeg, MB - At 7:26 p.m. on March 19, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey home in the 700 block of Beverley Street. Once on scene, crews found heavy smoke, with flames extending to the exterior of the home. An interior offensive attack was launched and the fire was quickly knocked down, with the Incident Commander declaring it under control at 8:00 p.m. The home suffered significant fire, smoke, and water damage.

Amendments to the 2019 Preliminary Budget Approved by Executive Policy Committee for Council's Consideration

Winnipeg, MB - A number of amendments to the preliminary 2019 operating and capital budget were approved today by the Executive Policy Committee (EPC) for consideration by Council at their special meeting tomorrow to consider the budget.

The amendments were proposed and approved after listening to feedback and suggestions from 25 delegations and 15 submissions as well as members of Council.

Spring maintenance activities underway in Winnipeg

Winnipeg, MB - As temperatures rise, City of Winnipeg crews are hard at work undertaking a variety of street maintenance work and flood preparation.

Street maintenance activities
City crews are engaged in a variety of activities this spring, including repairing potholes, addressing frozen catch basins, culverts, and inlets, addressing isolated slippery conditions on streets as required, and producing sandbags for possible river and overland flooding.
