Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Redwood Avenue Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 1:51 p.m., Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in a vacant two-storey home in the 200 block of Redwood Avenue.

Upon arrival on scene, crews found a well involved fire with heavy smoke conditions on the second floor. Initially an offensive attack was launched however due to deteriorating conditions they transitioned to a defensive fire attack.

Recruitment of City's Next Chief Administrative Officer Moving Forward

Winnipeg, MB – Recruitment of the City of Winnipeg's next Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) took another step forward today with the selection of an external consultant to assist the recruitment committee, Mayor Brian Bowman announced today.

“This is an important step in the process of recruiting the city’s next chief administrative officer,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “I am pleased to have this consultant in place and that we continue to move closer to finding and recommending for Council’s consideration the next senior leader of our public service.”

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Arlington Street Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 5:32 a.m. on May 16, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to a fire in a vacant bungalow in the 1600 block of Arlington Street. Once on scene, WFPS crews launched an offensive attack and declared the fire under control at 6:08 a.m. The house suffered significant smoke, fire and water damage.

Crews conducted a search of the structure and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.

French Language Services Review underway

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is inviting residents to help shape the future of French language service delivery in Winnipeg by participating in the French Language Services Review.

The City is committed to improving French language service delivery throughout Winnipeg. As part of the review, the City is engaging with residents and community stakeholders to gather feedback on how we can improve, update, and modernize the delivery of City services in French where resources are needed most.

Community centres receive renovation grants

Winnipeg, MB – Today, Mayor Brian Bowman announced that nine City-owned community centres will receive funding for renovations through the City of Winnipeg's Community Centre Renovation Grant (CCRG) program.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Main Street Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At approximately 11:43 a.m. on May 12, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews responded to reports of a working fire in a commercial building in the 2500 block of Main Street.

Once on scene, crews encountered smoke conditions in the structure and found a fire in the washroom area, and used an offensive fire attack strategy to extinguish it.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.

Sargent Avenue Fire

At approximately 2:17 a.m. on May 10, 2019, WFPS crews responded to a three storey apartment complex in the 700 block of Sargent Ave. Once on scene crews declared a working fire and quickly extinguished it utilizing an interior attack. No injuries were reported and the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Haney Street Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At approximately 8:56 p.m. on May 9, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in a single storey residential dwelling in the 600 block of Haney St. West. Once on scene, crews found a fire in the kitchen and utilized an offensive fire attack strategy for control and extinguishment. The occupants were able to self-evacuate before crews arrived on scene.

2019 Biz Awards Presented By Mayor Bowman

Winnipeg, MB – At a ceremony today, Mayor Brian Bowman presented the annual Business Improvement Zones Awards to 16 Winnipeg individuals and organizations that have made contributions to enhance their local improvement zones. The annual Mayor’s BIZ Awards acknowledge the many contributions made to BIZ zones through marketing, special events and promotions, as well as local area beautification and safety.
