Winnipeg, MB – At 1:51 p.m., Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in a vacant two-storey home in the 200 block of Redwood Avenue.
Upon arrival on scene, crews found a well involved fire with heavy smoke conditions on the second floor. Initially an offensive attack was launched however due to deteriorating conditions they transitioned to a defensive fire attack.
While working to extinguish the fire, crews also worked to protect neighbouring homes from fire extension. Once conditions improved, they were able to transition back to an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 3:04 p.m.
Crews completed a search of the house and found no occupants. Two occupants from the neighbouring home to the west were evacuated. They were assessed by paramedics on scene but did not require transport to hospital. No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.
